About Wike Watt

(1957, USA) Always wearing a classical lumberjack shirt, he is considered a basic stand of contemporary alternative rock music in North America, as well as a brilliant bass player and composer.

He’s founding member of Minutemen and Firehose bands, musician of Iggy Pop & The Stooges since 2003 and usual collaborator of key independent U.S. musicians of bands such as Sonic Youth, Porno for Pyros, Dinosaur Jr., Beastie Boys, Nirvana, Black Flag or Soundgarden.

Watt is currently leading his own music project since 1995, with the participation of a lot of other well-known alternative musicians of that country. He began his friendship and professional collaboration with Raymond Pettibon in the early eighties, during the emerging punk scene of Los Angeles. Pettibons’s brother, Greg Ginn was the responsible of the music label that produced Watt’s Minutemen’s records -one of his earliest bands-, and musician of the mythical punk band Black Flag. Since then, they’ve been working together periodically. Raymond Pettibon’s elaborates the graphic art and promotional material of Mike Watt’s bands (Minutemen and Mike Watt). And even sometimes, they collaborate in duo music projects, such as Sock-Tight or live duo interventions.
